Dr. Lan Wang joined Visa Research as a Staff Research Scientist in July 2020. Lan received her Ph.D. in Mathematics from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2020 and her Bachelor's in Applied Mathematics from Wuhan University in 2014. Her Ph.D. thesis was on the stability of dynamical systems on networks.
Prior to joining Visa, Lan was a teaching and research assistant at University of Illinois. She is a devoted educator and has been ranked as the best instructor by students for multiple years. She has contributed to various industry-leading companies in the field of agriculture, technology and finance as a data scientist intern and her projects had all been deployed into production. She attended in Synchrony Datathon in 2018 and won the Most Innovative Model Award.
As a member of the Artificial Intelligence team, her research interest lies within applied machine learning and deep learning theory. She aspires to bring her knowledge and experience in mathematics, computer science and engineering to the real world, and bridge the gap between the theoretical and applied realms of data science.
