Visa shows support for the LGBTQ+ community

Human Rights Campaign Foundation™ names Visa one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality”™

At Visa, we are committed to building an inclusive culture where all employees feel they belong. Visa is a proud supporter of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT+) community and of marriage equality. As we continue to focus internally on building a culture of inclusion, Visa is also committed to supporting initiatives that advocate for the good of all people and that help shape practices which positively impact equality and inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community around the world.

Today, Visa is excited to share our support for two important global initiatives that will help advance progress toward acceptance for everyone, everywhere:

  • Visa has expressed support for the United Nations Standards for LGBTI, a best-practice guide for policies and practices for LGBTI employees and inclusive workplaces. This guide, produced by the United Nations Human Rights Office, outlines five Standards of Conduct to support the business community in tackling discrimination against lesbian, gay, bi, trans and intersex (LGBTI) people. The Standards, produced in collaboration with the Institute for Human Rights and Business, build on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and reflect the input of hundreds of companies across diverse sectors.
  • Visa joined Human Rights Campaign’s Business Coalition for the Equality Act. This coalition is comprised of a group of leading U.S. employers that support the Equality Act, federal legislation that would provide the same basic protections to LGBTQ people as are provided to other protected groups under federal law. The Equality Act creates clear, consistent protections to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in employment ensuring that LGBTQ employeesare hired, fired, and promoted based on their performance.

Visa has received a rating of 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index™ for five years in a row, earning recognition from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation™ as one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality”™.

At Visa, we are a global team that celebrates the individuality of our employees. Employees should feel they can bring their whole selves to their offices every day—and feel appreciated for their unique backgrounds, personal passions and the talents that make their contributions unique and impactful. In April, our Pride Employee Resource Groups will kick off annual celebrations with Miami Beach Pride followed by other events across the globe. Look for blog posts spotlighting our LGBTQI employees and allies throughout the month of June.
