United leverages Visa Commerce Network to reward customers with award miles

Today, Visa’s longtime partner United Airlines gave the United MileagePlus X app an upgrade, offering United MileagePlus® members unique opportunities to earn award miles for everyday purchases.

Within the app, United introduced a new loyalty program—United Visa Rewards—which is powered by the Visa Commerce Network, Visa’s loyalty platform. United Visa Rewards is currently available exclusively to United Chase Visa cardmembers in the United States, who are now able to enroll their eligible card into the program via the app. From there they can view active enhanced mileage-earning offers from participating merchants.

Once program participants make a qualifying purchase with a participating merchant, they will receive a near real-time reward notification within the app. United Chase Visa cardmembers can earn 1,000 bonus award miles[1] by enrolling their eligible credit card into the program by March 31, 2019. Introduced in 2016, Visa Commerce Network allows merchants to create online and in-app commerce experiences to acquire new customers, drive loyalty and increase sales. Visa cardholders who rideshare with Uber are also getting rewards through the Visa Local Offers with Uber program. Riders with an eligible U.S.-issued Visa card on file in the Uber app can save on future rides when they shop or dine.

Visa Commerce Network is available through commerce APIs built on Visa’s secure and trusted network. Merchants can learn more or sign up to participate at or by emailing [email protected] for further information.
