Visa and Microsoft Wallet: A simple new way to pay in the U.S.

Windows Insiders can now easily and more safely tap to pay with Microsoft Wallet.

Today, Microsoft announced it will enter the mobile payments category with the launch of Microsoft Wallet with tap to pay for Windows Insiders in the U.S. Windows Insiders can now simply load their eligible Visa cards on the Microsoft Wallet app on their Lumia 950, 950 XL and 650 phones, and tap to pay at more than a million retail locations (look for a contactless payment symbol or the Microsoft Wallet logo at checkout). General availability of the Microsoft Wallet with tap to pay will come later this summer.

Microsoft Wallet uses the Visa Token Service to securely enable tap to pay using Windows 10 mobile devices. Visa Token Service helps protect a Microsoft Wallet transaction conducted with an eligible Visa card by replacing sensitive account information with a unique digital identifier or “token.” The encrypted token keeps actual card details private in the event of fraud.
